This week the Cook Islands rugby family welcomes another touring New Zealand school team to the island.

The champion Mt Albert Grammar Schools (MAGS) first XV arrived at the weekend joining the under 13 Northcote-Birkenhead Rugby Club who arrived on the island last Thursday.

The U13 Northcote-Birkenhead team are from the North Harbour provincial region, just over the Auckland harbour bridge, with the team made up of players aged between 11 and 13.

Last Friday the visiting team played against the Under 13 Town selection XV with the physically bigger local team triumphant by 40-nil.

The game was played in good spirits with both teams enjoying the post-match function and glorious food.

Today, Northcote-Birkenhead will play their second game against a local under 13 Country selection.

This game will be played at the Arorangi field at 3pm followed by Mt Albert’s first game on tour at 4.30pm against an Under 19 Country selection.

Mt Albert will play their second game on tour on Wednesday at 4.30pm at the Avatiu field against an under 19 Town selection.

The Mt Albert team will then play a third game against a Under 19 Cook Islands residents team on Saturday at the BCI Stadium after the first week of the CITC Rarotonga club sevens tournament.

Cook Islands Rugby Union would like to welcome our New Zealand rugby families and look forward an exciting week of action-packed school-boy rugby that will go a long way in assisting with local player development.
