An American Samoa senator, Galeai Tu’ufuli is calling for better protection of police officers following recent shootings targeting the police.

Galeai says he wants to hear from the Governor, who is scheduled to address the legislature tomorrow, about the administration’s strategy on police protection as well as how it is going to address the increased presence and sale of illegal drugs in the territory. Investigations are continuing into a drive-by shooting of the Leone police substation in November and the December shooting at a police vehicle. Senator Galeai is looking at proposing new police protection legislation similar to federal laws.
