Road race series continues

Thursday 30: The island’s top two cross country athletes have left to compete for the Cook Islands in the Oceania cross country champs in Christchurch on Saturday.

Thomas Henderson and Vanessa Palmer were the winners of the recently-completed cross country series held on Rarotonga recently, which made them eligible to compete in the Oceania event.

With the annual Round Rarotonga Road Race to be held on Saturday September 5, the series of road races continues today.

The race will again start and finish at the western end of Punanga Nui market (by the fish market) at 5.15pm.

Results of last week’s race were as follows: Men’s 8km – Kevin Henderson 30:43, Roland Neururer 30:44, Scott Howley 31:24, Geoff Stoddart 33:06, Jeff Cook 43:55, men’s 5km – Mark Tatum 23:03, Andy Olah 24:49, David Lobb 26:14, women’s 8km –Vanessa Palmer 33:27, Rangi Apera 37:05, Rebecca Washbourne 44:18, Louise Wittwer 44:40, Leanne Corvette 44:54, Melanie Wilson 45:19, Pare Tangata 45:29, Peta Ngari 47:45, women’s 5km – Kirsten Willis 32:04, Katherine Reid 32:04, Apii Napa 32:3, women’s 3km – Christina Newport 18:41, Sophie Burns 18:41, Teresa Williams 18:58.
