The first golden oldies rugby game of the season saw almost everybody arrive on time with the game kicking off at 4.40pm at Nikao field last Friday.
Mongoose A verses Mongoose B and the rest of the clubs format game was developed for the afternoons event.
Johnny Hosking was the ref for the day and kept the play flowing.
Papa Tere from Titikaveka who has just returned to Rarotonga after some long years in NZ played a very good game with the try of the match to his credit.
The usual players including Papa Anau and Uncle Pat - along with some new players - enjoyed themselves with the fun way the game was played.
Slippery Wilkie was a man to watch, like a wee kid with a smile a mile wide whilst he made some dashing runs alongside Tony Macquarie with Casper trying to stop these two.
Steam roller Skews showed how you start a good run only to fall over his own two feet before he could stop but managed to pass the ball before he went down.
All in all it was a game played in the golden oldies spirit of fun and friendship while the fraternity part took place at Rosies Shanghai Cafe across the road where Steiny and Heiny were present. The players also had the pleasure of Kevin Iro and his old team mate Tony Kemp from the Kiwi league team giving their views on the upcoming tour here by the Kiwis.
Thanks to all the Mongoose for a superior after-match feed.
This Fridays second game will be at Muri hosted by the Sons of Takitumu so jerseys to be supplied by Ngatangiia and Titikaveka and the game will start at 4.30pm.
