New Zealands first class cricketers the Northern Knights arrive on Rarotonga this afternoon for a nine-day spring training camp, including an historical match against the Telecom Cook Islands national team.
Cricket CEO Alister Stevic explained that planning for the visit began in early March with an approach from Knights head coach, former Black Cap and past Cook Islands national coach Grant Bradburn.
Stevic said that a significant amount of planning and coordinating had gone into the trip at both ends.
Grant and team manager Graeme Stewart have worked tirelessly to make this trip an awesome occasion for their players and our people, commented Stevic.
He further applauded Bradburn, Stewart and the players for their proactiveness in ensuring the visit also included activities that promotes cricket in the country.
I have been well impressed because their attitude could had been lets go over for a good time in the sun, but it has been far from that, they are truly passionate about helping promote the game in the Cooks and developing our players.
The Knights will be out tomorrow assisting with the ANZ Under 16 and 19 tournaments at Takitumu School and will be helping with umpiring, giving advice to youngsters and being available for photos and signatures.
The historic match between the Telecom Cook Islands national team and the Knights is scheduled for the October 14 at 2.30pm at the Turangi Oval and entry is free for all.
