The Cook Islands Cycling Federation will start its 2012 season on Saturday afternoon with an event from the RSA opposite the airport at Nikao at 3pm.

The first week’s event will be a scratch (everyone starting together) event with distances to suit the cyclists’ fitness and age.

Juniors and the less fit can do a 6km circuit with a 10km and a 20km loop also available. Any cyclist is welcome to attend – and it doesn’t matter what kind of cycle you have.

The following event on Saturday June 30 will be a time trial with cyclists departing one minute apart and covering a distance of 5km.

The federation is also looking at running some mountain bike races later in the season.
