The 2012 main season basketball championships tipped off to a great start last Tuesday with some aggressive games and wins.

The Cook Islands Basketball Federation was thrilled to welcome back regular players and new faces to the courts at the TSA.

Most games were one-sided affairs with dominating teams keen to make their mark early in the competition.

In the women’s division, the A-Town Galz were just too feisty for the Boom Boom Babies who managed to put 44 points up against the A-Town Galz who won the game 67-44.

The Eke Galz were on fire beating the Tupapa Nui Ravens 58-5 but no doubt the Ravens will be plotting to improve their game and be competitive in coming weeks.

The Ngatangiia E-Galz took on the number 2 Eke Galz team and were successful in toppling them 52-12.

Games were just as intense in the men’s division with the Sea Dragons pulling off a win 74-32 against the spirited Club Philo Raro crew.

A closer game was seen between the Water Ratz and Ruaau Mighty Lions with the Ruaau crew roaring their way to a 42-30 win.

The final game of the night between the Avalicious Katukanga Boys and Hot Dogz was an evenly matched affair with both sides trading baskets but it was the experienced Hot Dogz that kept their cool to win by one point 23-22.

Game two of the season starts at 5.20pm tonight at the Telecom Sports Arena.
