Blackrock Apii Potiki kids had plenty to smile about yesterday when members of the Mongoose Golden Oldies club visited them with a $700 cheque.

A supersized cheque was handed over to school principal Stephanie Puiri who was thrilled with the funds which will go a long way in providing good quality early childhood education to the school students.

The funds were raised during the second Mongoose Golden Oldies charity cricket match played on Easter Monday between Mongoose players and an invitational team made up of ex Grammar school students dubbed the Glamour Boys.

Players paid a small fee to join the fun tournament and after last years revitalised tournament and this years hugely successful get together, Mongoose chairman George George says the charity cricket match is definitely going to be a much anticipated event on the Mongoose annual calendar.

George says that $540 was raised on Easter Monday through the cricket tournament with Mongoose members topping up the funds to $700 for Blackrock Apii Potiki.

Last years funds were donated towards the Aitutaki cyclone appeal.

Worthy charities are discussed by the golden oldies club before a decision is made on which charity will receive the funds.

George says it was an exciting cricket match played on Easter Monday and joked that he and fellow Mongoose member Robert Skews were also at Blackrock Apii Potiki to recruit future Mongoose fledglings.
