The ANZ Play and Stay Stars tennis competition continues today at the Tennis Centre in Nikao.

The five-week competition got underway last Saturday with the under 8, under 9 and under 12 competition.

Today will see the continuation of the under 8 tournament and the start of the under 14 competition.

Last Saturday, Eva Pati was just too good to win the under 8 division competition ahead of second place getter Jack Sutherland. Elijah Amataiti was the stand out in the under 9 competition to take out the division ahead of Sienna Short.

The under 12 division saw some fierce battles between some of the island’s up and coming tennis stars.

In the first semi final – brothers Trey and Strauss Williams faced off in a battle than went right down to the wire but it was Trey that triumphed 10-9.

The second semi final of the day was another tough game between Jack Woods and Andrew Terupe who eventually won the match 10-5 to face Trey Williams in the grand finals.

Neither play gave an inch but once Terupe warmed up – he was unstoppable as he went on to win the match 10-7 and the under 12 division.

The under 8 competition starts at 9.30am and will run up to 11 o’clock while the under 14 competition will begin at 12pm.
