Matavera too slick for Titikaveka

The Takitumu School grounds saw a great turnout from loyal supporters cheering on their clubs Matavera FC and Titikaveka FC in a thrilling match during the main men’s Lotto Premiership match on Saturday.

During the main Lotto Premiership men’s match, Matavera proved too slick for Titikaveka defeating them by four goals to two, providing an exciting match for those who turned up.

It was Titikaveka who scored early in the first half through striker Sean Bullen catching the Matavera defenders off guard.

Minutes later Bullen scored Titikaveka’s second goal as their supporters celebrated, however it was cut short when Matavera’s speedster striker Paul Poila latched onto a through ball to strike in their first goal.

Matavera’s Jake Numanga equalised when he saw Titikaveka’s goalkeeper out of his goal mouth.

Numanga lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper’s head to find the back of the net before the half-time break.

In the second half both sides tried tirelessly to score the winning goal and it was Matavera who scored the winning goals through Andre Pareanga and David Piakura with the final result swaying in favour of host’s Matavera, four goals to two.

In the other Lotto Premiership men’s game played at the Avatiu swamp, hosts Avatiu went down to Tupapa Maraerenga by five goals to two while Friday’s match between Takuvaine and Nikao Sokattak saw that game go to Nikao Sokattak by four goals to one.

In the senior women’s championship Titikaveka found it hard to score against Matavera but managed to slip one goal in before the half time. Coming back in the second half a recharged Titikaveka outfit punted through six goals, but Matavera playing till the final whistle managed to slip one goal for their efforts bringing the final score to seven goals to one.

In the other senior women’s match at the Avatiu swamp, Avatiu held off Tupapa Maraerenga to a scoreless first half but Tupapa came back in the second half to score two unanswered goals while Nikao Sokattak proved too strong for Takuvaine thumping them by 11 goals to nil.
