The Cook Islands League Masters will be kicking off their last warm up game today at the Swamp at 5pm sharp before heading to Christchurch for the International Rugby League Masters tournament.

This is a call out to all the masters’ players to turn up and give the touring side a good run before they go on tour.

The squad has been training very hard for the past few months under the watchful eye of coach Henry Tupa.

Tupa hopes to start stringing a couple of their moves together and a good display of skills and flare on the field this afternoon from the team.

While the steam looks a bit slow as expected -they look steady and sharp.

“It took a while to get everyone playing to a structure but we’re confident we will do well as this international event,” says Tupa.

“We have got a good mixture of the young (40+) and the experience (50+) in the squad".

The team features quite a few former internationals with the likes of Sonny Shepherd, Bobby Hunter, Willie Kauvai, Simi Harrigan Teiotu along with the two experienced league stalwarts in presidents Lucky Matapuku (League Masters) and Charles Carlson (CIRL).

Minister Mark Brown was seen at training showing a glimpse of his DMDs (during my days) with some slick moves as he always does the opposition (sports and politics). However, it’s not an automatic selection for the minister in the squad, the trial today will decide whether he gets selected or not!

The only gold shorts (60+) player Tua Dyer in the team is looking sharp and dangerous on defence clocking up the highest tackle count in the previous games so definitely the secret weapon to the teams defence.

So be there at the Swamp 5pm for kick off.
