Buoyed by the successes in Tahiti at the Oceana Masters Champs earlier in the month the Cook Islands masters athletes will continue their weekly meeting at the BCI Stadium each Wednesday from today.

Last week the team gathered at the BCI Stadium to discuss the Champs in Tahiti and to plan for future events. The two major events discussed were the Cook Islands Masters Champs to be staged here on Rarotonga in October and the next Oceania Masters to be held in Tauranga New Zealand from February 5 to 12, 2012.

The invitation was made to anyone interested in trying their hand at an athletic event to come and try on a Wednesday evening (from 5pm)

The team of 19 athletes that participated in Tahiti won a total of 58 individual medals and two relay medals with nine golds, 27 silvers and 24 bronze medals.

The gold medals were won by Pareina Tangata W45 Triple Jump (7.60m) and W45 400m (78.84sec), Terai Hill W55 Weight Pentathlon (1734pts), Tamarua Herman M65 60m (11.09Sec), Moana Henderson W45 Pentathlon (1828pts), Jennie George W35 2000m Steeplechase (9min 00.21sec), Rouru Bishop W55 Hammer Throw (17.91m), Apii Napa W35 Discus (23.96m) and David Lobb M55 60m (9.08sec).
