In preparation for the upcoming Mangaia Tri Series tournament in Auckland, Mangaians on Rarotonga will gather at the golf club in Nikao tonight for an Ambrose tournament.

The Tri Series is a sports tournament contested by Mangaians based on Rarotonga, New Zealand and Australia.

This year the tournament will be hosted by Auckland and this will run from December 24 to January 8 .

This evening is going to be a fun loving get together for all Mangaian’s with guest artists performing and Epheraima Taokia entertaining throughout the night.

Barbecue will also be available for all those hungry mouths.

This evening is also a good opportunity for all members travelling to New Zealand to talk strategy ahead of the sports event.

The Rarotonga-based team is ready for the challenge after training for the past six months. As the holder of the Jim Marurai Champions Trophy, the Cook Islands team is aiming to return with this trophy but things look to be very competitive at the tournament in all 11 codes.

Teams will contest in the codes of oe vaka, golf, volleyball, touch rugby, tennis, table tennis, soccer, cricket, darts, netball and rugby 15.

The Cook Islands team of 120 people will depart on December 21 under the leadership of our Mangaian stalwart Papatua Papatua.

He will be supported by Tangi Kauvarevai, the Tri Series chairman who has the task of preparing our athletes to return as champions.

‘Learn from yesterday, make changes today for a better tomorrow’ is the theme of this year’s tournament.

Cultural performances and family reunions from the three countries will also be part of this gathering. A great Christmas and New Year gift for all.
