The final round of the Computer Man Golf Tournament held last Saturday produced the closest final results seen for a long time at the Rarotonga Golf Club.

After the first round, which produced a great game from Ake Unuka with a nett 62 to be the leader, and with several other players in contention, it was always going to be a very interesting final round.

A lot of players took a careful approach to the game, playing percentage golf to consolidate or improve their placing, while others really went for it by taking chances they normally would not try.

After all, the Computer Man tournament is always well worth winning.

Both strategies produced mixed results.

Some players sacrificed accuracy for distance while others were too cautious.

Lynn Webb threw caution to the winds and played her best game for a long time with a nett 62, while previous leader Ake Unuka played a more cautious game which didn’t quite go her way and she could only manage a nett of 72.

After her first round nett of 69, Lynn Webb was the eventual winner of the tournament with a total 131.

Lynn won on a count-back from Myles Taio and Rita Howard.

Ben Areai was close behind these with 132 and Ake Unuka finished 5th with 133.

She was followed by Mena Howard, Maara Kenning, Mii Tangitamaiti, and Henry R Henry all on 134.

Ned Howard rounded out the top ten with 136 on a count-back from John Kenning.

The best round of the day from the men came from Daniel Webb with a 69 off the stick and Mena Howard was the best of the ladies with a 77.

Computer Man Mike Pynenburg was on hand for the prize-giving and Karlene Pynenburg graciously presented all the wonderful prizes.

This was a great tournament which went down to the wire and all the members are very grateful to Computer Man Mike for his very generous support once again.

This Saturday is the first round of the popular Air New Zealand Tournament.

This is a bogey competition played over 36 holes with the final round to be played on May 5.

Some members are reminded to enter their names for a tee time and all members are asked to notify the club if they cannot play at their nominated tee time.

Just a gentle reminder – if you haven’t paid your fees in full yet then you are un-financial and must pay green fees each time you play.

As usual, good luck to all golfers.
