Lux and Duke lead from front

Fast paced rugby was the order of the day when golden oldies rugby players gathered at the Swamp on Friday for their regular meet.

Captained by Lux Matapuku, the Red team through OB scored almost immediately after some brilliant backline moves.

Motivational captain Dentist Duke spurred the Blue team on and Sonny Bill with speedy Mike found gaps in the Red’s defence.

Mower-man Taua was back with his trade mark runs up-the-guts carrying one or two tacklers with him.

Jason, visiting from Karamea in New Zealand, was an equally devastating ball carrier for the Blues.

First five Pius kept the defence guessing every time he touched the ball with his switch and reverse passes.

‘Man of the match’ Papa Tere wearing gold shorts kept close to the action and scored five tries.

Referee Takaiti kept his cool under a verbal barrage from players, but had no qualms about sending one of them to the sin bin for over-vigorous play.

For the next game the referee is appealing to all players to wear the right coloured shorts.

The execs are encouraging the country players from Arorangi to Takitumu to join the next game this Friday at the Tupapa field.
