The Avatiu and Titikaveka under 8 netball teams are improving every week but the girls are keen to see more teams in the age grade.

For the past four weeks – Avatiu and Titikaveka under 8 squads have played each other every week as the only two under 8 sides in the competition.

It’s also interesting to note that both clubs also have the top two premier teams in the domestic competition.

Other clubs are encouraged to get their babes into an under 8 squad and be part of this grassroots development competition which brings loads of smiles and cheers from proud parents and spectators.

In Saturday’s game, the babes on both sides played their hearts out with some fantastic netball seen.

Avatiu goal shooter QB George-Taripo had spectators in awe with her well-honed skills as she controlled her team’s game while in the Titikaveka side, twins Chloe and Tia worked hard with some awesome intercepts under the goal by Chloe.

Parents and coaches lined the court and encouraged the kids every step of the way with all four goals by Avatiu met with a raucous cheer and a fist pump by QB.

In other games – Avatiu won their matches in the open 2, under 10, under 15 and reserve grade with Titikaveka taking out the open 1, junior open and premier grade.

Avatiu will be patting themselves on the back even though they lost to the defending champions by just one point 44-45.

This close encounter was a huge confidence boost for Avatiu who last year couldn’t contain Titikaveka but after Saturday’s game they will have renewed belief in themselves while Titikaveka are capable of taking their game to another level.

In games between Tupapa and Ngatangiia – Tupapa won the under 10 grade, drew 8-all in the under 12 division and won both the under 15 and reserve score.

Unfortunately no scores were submitted from the games played out at Raemaru Park between Arorangi and Takuvaine.
