The Cook Islands Triathlon Association will run its recreational half marathon this Saturday morning from the tri site in Tikioki.

The run will be staged at 7am over what has been described as a social course and the timing of the race will also mean less traffic on the road.

The 21.1km course will take runners from the tri site towards Ngatangiia for the first turnaround at the Pacific Resort bridge.

Runners will then head back past the tri site towards Vaiimaanga and turn around just after the Saltwater Caf and head back to the tri site for the second shorter lap of the run.

The second lap will take runners back to the Pacific Resort bridge then back towards Vaiimaanga to the Queens Representative residence for the final turn and leg back to the tri site.

The marathon will also be a run-a-thon for local triathlete Rangi Apera and her manager Apii Napa who will be heading to the Pacific Games this week to represent the Cook Islands.

Supporters and family will be running on the morning to raise funds for the pair and sponsors keen to support this cause can sponsor on a per km basis.

If you would like to sponsor family and friends running to raise funds for Rangi Apera contact Pare Tangata on p.tangata@health.gov.ck for a sponsorship sheet.

Meanwhile the triathlon association is calling for volunteers to help with the water stations for the half marathon.

If you have a spare couple of hours in the morning before the markets, get along to the tri site on Saturday and register your interest to volunteer with Jennie George, Steve Whitta and Terai Hill and they will be happy to assign you with a task or two to make the event a success.

Otherwise get your shoes ready and join the early morning recreational half marathon this Saturday.
