Last chance to impress

This week’s round of club rugby games will be the last week for some teams to impress as next week will be semi-finals top four time.

Only the first to fourth placed teams per grade will progress to the knockout semis.

The semi-finals will see first vs fourth playing at one venue with the second vs third placed teams playing at another venue.

The host venues for the semis will be decided by the first and second placed teams in the senior A grade.

In the FBI under 13 grade, the top three placing have been secured by the Panthers, Cowboys and Dragons while the Reds and the Eels will fight to secure fourth spot.

The top three placing have also been secured in the Origin Energy under 16 grade and they are the Eels, Cowboys and Panthers but Dragons and the Bulls will have to scrap to secure the final fourth spot on offer.

Both the Dragons and the Bulls are on 15 points.

The Budget Rental and Polynesian Bike Hire under 19 grade is a tight race indeed with the Eels and the Panthers heading the pack.

With the Eels having a bye this week they should just slip in front closely followed by the Panthers.

The Cowboys (27 points) are outright leaders of the Whatever Bar & Grill Senior B grade with the perfect record of nine from nine.

There is a bit of a struggle for the second to fourth places with a bit of jostling between the Bulls (21pts), Eels (20pts) and the Reds (18pts).

So this week’s result for the second to fourth placed teams will be crucial.

After last weekend’s bonus point win the Eels (30pts) extend their lead in the CITC Senior A grade with the Cowboys (28pts) in second place.

In third place are the Bulls (21pts) closely followed by the Dragons (19pts).

On the current standings – the Eels, Cowboys and the Bulls are confirmed in the top four.

The last and fourth spot will be hotly contested this weekend between the Dragons, Reds and Panthers.

Extra interest will focus on the Reds and Panthers game whereby a win to either team together with bonus points should put them in a good position to challenge for the hotly contested fourth spot – that is pending the Dragons losing to the Eels and not finishing within seven points.
