The Palace Takeaways Under 14 match between the Avatiu-Nikao Eels and the Ngatangiia-Matavera Dragons is not to be missed.
The Eels suffered a minor setback in last week’s semis, losing 15-21 against the Cowboys. This is the Eels first loss in two years! With one more ‘ life’ available, the Eels are sure to make the most of this opportunity – watch out Dragons.
Players to watch for are Eels speedster Mark Leito and his barn-storming partner Doom Ponini. The Dragons’ hard working forward Jackson Aitken and skilful pivot Owen Matapo are their players to watch.
Captain Tama’s Under 16 game Tupapa Panthers versus the Eels should be a cracker with the Panthers having defeated the Eels two weeks ago – Panthers winning 21-20. The Eels are the current U16 Powerade Trophy champions so this sets up an exciting match in this grade. The Panthers and the Eels have met twice this season with one win each.
Players to watch out for are Panthers utility back Aitu Newbigging and strong-running forward Sam Aitau and Eels fullback Braydon Kamana and hardworking captain Teao Katuke.
In the Ocean Fresh Under 19 match up between the Avatiu eels and the Takuvaine Reds is set to be all action.
The Reds have been a real surprise package this season unveiling lots of new players to the game of rugby this year all the way from the northern group islands. Both Eels versus Reds matches this year have been closely fought affairs with the Eels winning both times. However, could the Reds be rewarded this weekend with that elusive win? Be up at the BCI Stadium this Saturday to find out.
Players to watch are the Reds’ loosehead prop and captain Vaike Potoru and first 5/8 Tokoiva Williams who have been in outstanding form this year.
Up to 10 players in this Eels team have experienced game time in the Senior As this year, so watch out for number 8 and captain Stanley Tobia, prop Toru Katuke and centre Raina Wichman to feature this weekend. Only the winners from this weekend will progress to next week’s Grand Finals. Bests of luck to all teams this weekend
