Ladies excel in Computer Man

Last Saturdays Computer Man Tournament at the Rarotonga Golf Club drew a large field of 95 players.

Although only a small percentage of players were ladies, those who played featured exceptionally well in the prizes.

Out of the 10 prize winners, 6 were ladies.

On a day where the course was damp enough for clean and place to be in force, there were some really good scores in this nett competition so much so that several members will be on a lower handicap this week.

Winner of the first prize of a laptop computer was Apii William-Marsters (ex Suwarrow caretaker) who had a great round of 73 off the stick for a nett 62.

He managed to win on a count-back from Rita Howard who repeated her form of 2 weeks ago.

Rita carded an 83 off the stick to also finish with nett 62.

Two strokes covered the next eight players who all won good prizes.

On a nett 63 were John Jessie, Teremoana Hardie, Here Story, Haimona Brown and Maara Kenning.

Finishing on nett 64 were Daniel Webb, Tania Karati, and Ngarima Areai.

Best gross from the men came from Daniel Webb who shot a near-faultless 68 and Maara Kenning had a great game to be the best of the ladies with a 76.

Mens longest drive came from Kirk Tuaiti and for the ladies it was, again, Tania Karati, who seems to save her energy for the 18th I saved mine for the 19th!

It was good to see such a large turnout for this competition, although it was really no surprise given the quality of the prizes on offer due to the generosity of the Computer Man.

This long weekend there is a two-day competition, sponsored by Telecom Cook Islands.

The first round is on Saturday and the second round is on Monday.

Mondays round will be a shotgun start at 1pm due to Monday being Anzac Day.

This should also draw a large field.

Please do not put your name down for Monday until you get to the club on Monday.

Members are reminded that whenever clean and place is in force, it only applies to the fairway (closely mown area) of the hole you are playing.

Hopefully, the weather will be fine and we wont need it. Good luck to all golfers.
