More than 60 Rarotonga kids are expected to make a splash, cycle and dash in today’s Kids Tryathlon at the Ngatangiia Sports field.

The race starts at 3pm and all parents are asked to get the kids along to the sports field by 2.30pm to set up their gear and register for the fun event.

The race is for kids aged between four and 15 and is organised by level one accredited triathlon coach and Tereora College physical education teacher Vanessa Palmer.

There will be a range of optional courses and distances from the splash, bike and dash course for the babes right up to longer courses which include a 100m swim, 4km bike and 1km run for the older kids.

Helmets for the cycle leg are compulsory and so is plenty of enthusiasm.

Each child will receive a free t-shirt for the race and a medal afterwards thanks to Sanitarium, the makers of Weet-Bix.

Palmer has also received fantastic support from the community which means there will be loads of cool prizes for the kids including a free game of golf for every child thanks to Coco Putt.

Empire Theatre, Prime Foods, Avarua Bakery, Spaghetti House and Cook Islands News are also on board to make today a fun filled one for the tamariki.

The community at large is encouraged to get along to Ngatangiia field and cheer on the future champion triathletes.
