Kids keen to swim

Sports coach Ake Hosea-Winterflood is impressed with the speed at which Cook Islands children are picking up skills and techniques at her weekly swimming lessons as part of the ANZ Tamariki Sports Programme.

This week, Hosea says the kids have been getting a kick out of learning new techniques using swimming noodles and kick boards.

“And so am I,” adds Hosea who teaches up to 30 kids a lesson.

“It was interesting to see the kids quickly pick up what they have been taught and I can see they are keen.”

There are two more lessons as part of the current swimming programme and parents who haven’t had the chance to take the kids to the programme are still welcome to do so.

The weekly swimming lessons are held on Wednesdays at the Social Centre beach in Nikao and start at 4pm.

The programme is for kids aged between 7 and 11 but if little ones want to be part of the programme – parents must stay and supervise the kids in the water.
