Kids jump into swim lessons

Cold sea water did little to curb the enthusiasm of some 20 kids who took part in Wednesdays first ANZ Tamariki Sports Programme swim lessons with coach Ake Hosea-Winterflood.

While most of the kids were part of last seasons swimming lessons and were more than confident to leap into the cold water and splash around there were a handful of new swimmers that needed a little more encouragement.

On the beach Hosea stressed the importance of safety around water and with the safety lessons ticked off it was all on as kids rushed for the water to show off their swimming skills.

Kick board races were organised to warm up the kids before the kids demonstrated backstroke and freestyle swimming techniques.

Hosea was impressed with the confidence and swimming capabilities of her older students who first learned to swim properly during last seasons swimming lessons.

She was also pleased to see newcomers to the programme and encourages parents to get their kids into their togs and along to the weekly Wednesday swim lessons at the Social Centre beach in Nikao.

Lessons run for an hour from 4 to 5pm.
