Katikati College’s first XI soccer team registered a close win over the CIFA Academy team on Monday.

Both teams held each other to a goal-less first half, however, both had scoring opportunities but could only find the fencing behind the goals.

In the second Katikati scored, after miscommunication between the academy keeper and defenders, to take the lead.

The academy team equalised with a penalty kick.

Just as it looked the game was going to a one all draw, Katikati counter attacked and caught the keeper off guard to take the lead and hold on for a 2-1 victory.

Katikati will face Tupapa in their second match today at 5pm at Victoria Park.

Avatiu will host Katikati College on Friday at the Avatiu Swamp, kicking off at 5pm.

As the Rarotonga Round Cup competition continues Nikao will host Matavera.
