SAMOA – Samoa’s ambassador designate of Japan, Genichi Terasawa, is eager to dispel any rumours touting the efficacy of a Japanese brand of filtrated water for treating measles.

On Tuesday, Terasawa told the Samoa Observer that his embassy wanted to confirm that Kangen Water is not an approved medicine under Japan’s Pharmaceutical Affairs Law.

Kangen Water is made using a machine manufactured by a Japanese company called Enagic.

“The Embassy of Japan fully endorses the comment of the Samoan government officials, saying that local residents should not accept anything other than treatments recommended by health professionals, and that treatment delays can have life-threatening consequences,” he said.

Terasawa said he was anxious about the news that Kangen Water had been used in attempts to treat measles when there is no proof it can do so.

However, Terasawa said Japan did not take any responsibility for how Kangen Water is being used, and that individuals were responsible for their own actions.
