Proper tackling techniques and loads of fun were all part of the two-day kids rugby programme which comes to an end with a Rippa rugby tournament this coming Saturday.

IRB trainer Chad Tuoro is back on the island and helping out with rugby grassroots development.

More than 100 boys and girls gathered at Tupapa field on Monday and Tuesday for the fun rugby coaching sessions where the older kids got hands-on teaching while the smaller kids learned new skills for Rippa rugby.

Tuoro ran a training session for under 13 country rugby players at the Ngatangiia field on Wednesday and this morning – town kids will have their opportunity to learn new skills from Tuoro at the Avatiu field starting at 7am.

The two sessions for the town and country kids are all part of preparations for Saturday’s town versus country rugby competition to be held at Avatiu field.

At 10am on Saturday the under 13 kids will take to the field for the Rippa rugby competition before the under 13, under 16 and under 19 town versus country competition kicks off at 2pm.

Parents are encouraged to get their kids along to the early morning training sessions with Tuoro today and apopo for a fun festival of rugby on Saturday.
