Pacific Games sailing double gold medallist Helema Williams received a welcome ceremony fit for a queen when she returned to her home island of Manihiki last week with her two gold medals.

The 19-year-old sailing sensation was treated to a turou on the islands landing strip before walking through a guard of honour made up of family, friends and proud islanders who adorned her with ei and congratulations.

In return, Williams shared her sailing experience in Noumea and through Europe prior to the games.

She then shared her medals out to the gathered group of people who took turns putting them on and admiring the awards their daughter had brought home.

The last time the young Manihiki woman had been home was in 2009 for her papas funeral.

When you look at Manihiki theres nothing much to it but Im always excited to come back I guess its the families that keep this place special, commented Williams from Manihiki.

She adds that its always good to be home even for just a short two-week visit.

And its because of the short time she has with her supportive family that the bubbly teenager says she hadnt planned on sailing in her home waters again.

I just want to enjoy the time with my family.

Despite being dubbed the Pacific sailing queen the young woman couldnt get out of the daily chores back home including cleaning out the pig pens not that she is complaining.

Its been awesome even the cleaning the pig pen part!

As well as helping her family with any chores, Williams has been camping out on the motu, fishing, eating her favourite delicacies from home and hanging out with her family and friends.

Williams will return to Rarotonga next week and get straight back on her laser yacht and back on her mission to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics.
