Half marathon all set to go

This Saturday’s half marathon will be held from the Manea Foods complex on the back road of Nikao.

The race will get underway at 6.30am from the Manea Foods area and will end inside BCI Stadium grounds.

Runners will head west from the Manea Food complex along the back road and turn right down the Avatea and Nikao Maori School road.

From there head east along the Nikao seawall towards Avarua and the first water stop will be at the Oasis Energy petrol station.

Runners continue along the main road through Avatiu where the second water stop will be at the LDS church across from the Avatiu western harbour.

The course continues through Avarua and to the main roundabout at the Avarua harbour where the third water stop will be stationed.

Racers head up to the back road of Takuvaine and make back towards Avatiu and Nikao with the fourth water stop to be stationed outside the Taro Patch store.

Runners will continue back to the Manea Foods complex for the second round of the course.

At the end of the second round, runners will end their race by turning into the BCI Stadium road and heading into the complex for the final metres before the finish line.

Runners are encouraged to be at the start line nice and early to be registered and numbered.

The community at large is also encouraged to get out on the road side and support the local runners and motorists are also asked to please drive carefully at this time and watch out for the runners.

There will be a second half marathon next weekend from Tikioki.
