The Sharks golden oldies rugby field was firm last week but the weather was drizzly throughout the game, which kept the players cool in a fast and fun game.
It was the first of a ‘Sydney tourists versus the Rest’ game so that we may know each other’s play before the opening game where the gentlemen of Sydney play the Cook Islands.
The ref was Simi but he let Motor Mouth dictate what was going on which got almost everybody else going, so in the end there were 31 refs on the field.
Papa Anau had new red shorts and made good use of them with a number of good runs while Jaws was good at getting the breaks, but Mower just could not hold the ball, even dived for a try but left the ball behind, so Casper took his place on the wing and enjoyed a couple of tries.
Indian, in gold shorts, managed to last the whole game and Simi even marched him a couple of times for backchat.
Te Reo also lasted the whole game walking at the end.
Everybody was wet but warm after the game, changed and then went to the Caf Papua for the after game function.
The Mongoose now know they have to lift their act if they want to be number one – meitaki maata Sharks for a very enjoyable night once again. This week’s battle will be at the same time, 4.30pm at Ngatangiia where the rest will be in Maroon and Sydney boys will be in blue and white.
The C.I. Diplomat players could you please turn up and join Indian and Papa Maki with the rest of the Sydney players – we have five more games and your presence will be greatly appreciated as it is getting close to international time. See you all there.
