Goldies at Nikao

Last Friday’s golden oldies rugby was played at Nikao.

Despite the late arrival of a set of jerseys from the Legends, the game kicked off before 5pm.

It started off at a frantic pace with the Sydney-bound team moving the ball along their classy backs to open the scoring.

Not to be outdone the ‘non-travelling’ team replied in kind putting Lady Ake in the gap to score.

The two other ladies who played on the day also dotted down.

In the ‘engine room’, Skewy did his duty anchoring the scrum and used his bulk to bash through would be tacklers.

Tangata, a Golden Oldie from Mauke was kept on his toes by his opposite – the elusive minister Wilkie Rasmussen.

Referee Simi Teiotu controlled the game by the book, as he penalised the rampaging Crash- fire Joe for over-running 15 meters without passing the ball.

The fast flowing game was enjoyed by 30 odd spectators including Navy and JK from Aotearoa.

At the after match function, the Mongoose’s sponsor Yvonne of Vonnia’s awarded ‘player of the day’ to Henry (Sharks), Andy, Pat and Nia (Mongoose), Anau (Tupapa) and TD (Legends).

Thank you Mongoose for the delicious kai and enjoyable night.

This Friday the game will be at Rutaki starting at 4.30pm.

Mongoose and the Sharks, supply the jerseys please.

As Indian said before leaving for a deserved holiday overseas, “The game must go on!”
