Rarotonga golden oldies rugby players are ready to rumble for the 2010 season, starting with the first game tomorrow at the Nikao field starting at 4.30pm.

The golden oldies season will carry on every Friday until the Cook Islands’ golden oldies delegation departs in September for the Sydney Golden Oldies Rugby Tournament.

This year’s golden oldies rugby season will include four teams from Avatiu-Nikao Mongoose, Takuvaine Legends, Takitumu and Tupapa. However, any keen rugby player over the age of 35 are more than welcome to front up to the weekly games with your boots for a run.

In fact, golden oldies rugby organisers are still hoping to include the infamous Rutaki Sharks, the Titikaveka Eke and Arorangi Cowboys into the golden oldies season.

On a side note, the Golden Oldies held their annual general meeting and the existing executives were re-elected while longstanding golden oldies rugby enthusiast and organiser Papa Tom Wills has been elected a life member for his services to the association since 1996.

So don’t sit around grumbling about getting on in age, head to the Nikao field and have a bit of a run around and don’t forget if you have a dodgy knee or back wear red shots so you don’t get tackled!
