Plans are in the pipeline to run a Cook Islands National Golden Gloves boxing tournament later this month.

The golden gloves tournament will be run over two nights and will include boxers from Rarotonga and the outer islands.

The first fight night of the golden gloves tournament has been planned for July 29 and this will be an elimination night.

Boxers that make it through the elimination night will progress to the finals night scheduled for August 11.

Both fight nights will be held at the new home of boxing the Tupapa Youth Centre.

The Cook Islands Amateur Boxing Association is calling all boxers wishing to take part from Rarotonga and the pae enua to register before July 20.

Depending on interested numbers, the weigh-in for the tournament will be held on July 27 or 28.

The association would also like to invite former boxers to take part in the tournament in exhibition bouts.

All boxers both former and current - will need to register for the tournament.

Registrations can be made with Chris Manu or any other member of the boxing executive committee.

The five training squad boxers preparing for the Pacific Games are Eddy Daniel from the Muri club, John Andrew from Arorangi, Bernard Okotai from Titikaveka, Osolai Agai and Marcus Jack of the club.
