Aitutakians are passionate about their rugby league and are active supporters of their boys in the orange jersey.

During home games at Vaipae Stadium this season, the atmosphere has often been electric with banners flying, crowds cheering and recently a family from New Plymouth, New Zealand (Hurricane country), came up with another sign of their continuing support for their local team.

They designed and built a portable scoreboard so both the supporters and players could keep a keen eye on the scores during the games.

The scoreboard was also popular with local kids (pictured) who queued up as volunteers to help change the numbers as tries, conversions and penalties were scored.

The kids were encouraged to add up the correct score and choose the right numbers to help them with basic math skills.

This was to the great delight of one of the designers, Mr Tubby, who is the new mathematics teacher at Araura College, Aitutaki.

The scoreboard is now a regular feature at local rugby sevens and touch games.
