After a day of tennis lessons with coach Malcolm Kajer, around 20 first time players were confidently hitting tennis balls around the Nikao tennis courts on Tuesday.

It was the first day of the school holiday tennis programme and already Kajer has identified future Cook Islands tennis stars.

In fact, Kajer was confident that a number of the new players would represent the club and country at an under eight tournament in New Zealand at the end of the year.

The school holiday tennis programme runs every day over the two week school holidays with lessons for beginner players in the morning and more advanced training for the island elite junior players in the afternoon.

Kids learn how to properly grip their racquet and the different techniques to hit the ball over the net.

Kajer is being assisted in delivering the school tennis programme by some of the islands best junior players who took part in last month’s East Pacific Tennis Tournament here on Rarotonga.

So if you want to get your kids into tennis, give Malcolm Kajer a call on 75614.
