Show your support for Team Cook Islands and the Olympic sports in the Cook Islands by joining this afternoon’s ‘Olympic Fun Run’ starting at the Punanga Nui market at 5pm.

Today’s event is for the community at large and groups of supporters from the codes confirmed to represent the country at the London Olympics are expected to be out in force today with banners and signs of support for their athletes and Team Cook Islands.

On offer are three courses that you can run, walk and crawl over.

For kids under 13 and ‘easy walkers’ – a 1km course is on offer and for those in the Vaevae Challenge, bonus points can be earned over a 3km course.

The serious athlete and walker can opt to take on the 5km course.

All participants will receive a certificate at the end of the event, at which point the athletes making up Team Cook Islands will officially be announced.

The Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee will confirm weightlifter Luisa Peters and sailor Helema Williams inclusion in the team today although both national federations are confident their athletes have received wild cards to attend the Olympics while CISNOC waits for official confirmation from London.

CISNOC will also confirm this afternoon if slalom canoeist Bryden Nicholas has also received a wild card for the team and if so – he will join sister and fellow slalom canoeist Ella Nicholas, sprinters Patricia Taea and Patrick Tuara and swimmers Tepaia Payne and Celeste Brown in the team.

Get along to the market for today’s Olympic fun run and support Team Cook Islands and the Olympic movement.
