Two and possibly three more Cook Islands athletes will join Team Cook Islands to the London Olympics.
Weightlifter Luisa Peters and sailor Helema Williams appear to have received confirmation from their national federations that they have received wild card entries to the games.
However, Siniva Marsters of the Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee says they are yet to receive official confirmation of the two athletes’ wild card entries.
She adds that she is also waiting on confirmation to see if slalom canoeist Bryden Nicholas will also receive a wild card to compete at the London Games scheduled to start on July 27.
Marsters says she has a final meeting with London Games organisers this Wednesday and during the Olympic Fun Run on Thursday, to celebrate the Olympic movement, CISNOC will announce the full Team Cook Islands athletes and officials.
Currently, athletes confirmed in Team Cook Islands are – 100 metre sprinters Patricia Taea and Patrick Tuara, slalom canoeist Ella Nicholas and swimmers Tepaia Payne and Celeste Brown.
For now its fingers crossed for the last three athletes waiting on confirmation that they will fly the Cook Islands flag in London.
