It’s the season of fruit tarts, candy canes and over indulging, and the team at Tumuroa CrossFit want to help spread the cheer and kick your Christmas food woes to the curb.

The CrossFit gym in Arorangi has issued a challenge to all members and non-members, the 2013 CrossFit Christmas Corporate Challenge, putting the sport on display to passers-by.

Run by Olivia Heather and instructor Geoff Halston the gym opened its doors in July of this year and have since gained a loyal following.

The challenge will be on Tuesday December 17 and is open to businesses to sponsor a team of one male and one female – at least one must be a crossfitter – at $20 per team to compete 2 workouts of the day (WODs).

Starting at 12pm opposite the Banana Court the day is sure to work up a sweat but don’t be fooled by common assumptions of the sport.

“Many people automatically assume that CrossFit is too hard so here’s an opportunity for them to come see what it’s all about,” says Heather.

But the Christmas spirit doesn’t stop in the name of the challenge.

The team will be donating all the proceeds from fee’s as well as anything given by members to the Creative Centre.

Athletes are asked to be at the venue by 11.30am.

Registration ends tomorrow so email the team at fitclub.cooks@gmail.com or call Heather on 55945.
