A boxing fight night has been organised by the Cook Islands Boxing Association to be held at the Banana Court this evening.
While there is a tentative draw for tonight’s bouts between boxers from the various clubs on the island – the boxing association is putting the call out to all boxers, especially females, to register your interest at tonight’s fight.
Tonight’s tournament is the first opportunity for local boxers to showcase their skills and to fundraise for their trip to New Caledonia in August for the Pacific Games.
Seven bouts have been scheduled for the night but organisers expect to have a few more as boxers come out and show their interest.
The event is a fundraiser and entry fees are $5 per person.
The first bout of the night is expected to start at 6 o’clock with a number of exciting match ups for the evening.
The fight between national boxing representatives Eddie Daniel and Mathew Titoa is expected to be classy as both young boxers have regional and international experience under their belts.
In three weeks time, a boxing trial is planned to select the national team to represent the country at the Pacific Games. Arrangements are being made for the training squad to compete in at least two regional tournaments ahead of the games.
Everyone is welcome to the BC for the first fight night of the year.
