The Cook Islands is one of 48 countries racing at the Canoe Slalom World Champs in Slovenia.
Sole Cook Islands athlete Ella Nicholas was due to race in the K1 (kayak) class yesterday where she will gauge her fitness before making a decision to carry on or not.
Nicholas injured her back and neck in training three days before the opening ceremony of the championships and after a light paddle a day before her race she was reportedly feeling okay and ready to paddle in the K1.
However, this competition and her comfort during the race will determine her fate at the champs and her continuation in the C1 women’s competition.
Nicholas is joined by 350 other competitive and eager kayakers and canoeists at the champs.
