Club rugby will take a break this weekend as players strap on their boots for the annual Constitution Sevens tournament kicking off on Thursday and culminating in the finals on Friday.
Eight teams have registered for this year’s tournament and they will be play in two pools of four teams.
Each team will play three pool matches tomorrow before playing semi’s and finals on Friday which will see all teams play a minimum five matches over two days.
The tournament is sure to test the local players who will be joined in the competition by the Pirae Rugby Club from Tahiti.
Aitutaki won the inaugural Constitution Sevens tournament before the Panthers clawed their way to the top position last year.
Based on last week’s Rarotonga club sevens tournament as a warm up to the Constitution Sevens, the Avatiu Eels and Titikaveka Bulls are the teams to watch for.
The two teams faced off in the finals of the club sevens with the Eels walking away with a 17-7 victory over the Bulls.
All games will be played at the BCI Stadium in Nikao starting at 4pm tomorrow and Friday.
