Duathlon set to go

Due to popular demand and probably also the fact that some want to burn off the Christmas cheer – a duathlon has been organised for today.

The run and cycle event will again be held at Nikao opposite the Social Centre and will include two course distances.

Those just wanting to ease back into exercise have the option of a short 2km run, 8km cycle and 1km run course and those that over indulge during the festive season can tackle the longer course of a 3km run, 16km cycle and 3km run.

Last week’s duathlon was taken out by Roland Neururer who finished the 3km run, 16km bike and 3km run in a breezy 54 minutes and 4 seconds – 40 seconds ahead of second place getter Terry Meyer.

Neururer will be tackling the full Wanaka Challenge ironman in New Zealand on January 15 and will no doubt be joined by some of the group of eight local triathletes who will be racing in the Tauranga Half Ironman on January 8.

This is the last duathlon of the year – so you hardcore athletes are all invited to get along to Nikao for the duathlon starting at 5.15pm.
