Dogs howl at big win

The dogs will still be howling in Titikaveka after the village’s rugby league club caused a massive upset at the weekend mauling the Arorangi Bears 22-10.

It’s the second win registered by the Bulldogs this season but this match would have been a massive injection of confidence for the team especially after nipping at the ankles of the Panthers who managed to edge out the Bulldogs 22-18.

The Bears will no doubt head back to the drawing board to figure things out before their next encounter.

In other games at the weekend, the Ngatangiia-Matavera Sea Eagles gave their supporters something to party about when they beat the visiting Takuvaine Warriors 36 -10.

At the Avatiu Swamp the Eels showed no brotherly love against the Aitutaki Sharks until the kaikai after the match. The Eels slaughtered the Sharks 50-20.

Consistency was definitely the name of the game for the Eels with big forward Mark Charlie having a blinder, scoring a hat trick for the Eels.

It was Charlie that put the first points on the board for the Eels with new face in the Eels pack Damien Tetevano also causing damage in attack and defence.

Despite some brilliant moments by the Sharks – namely through veteran Messine Manapori, Loni Vanilla and young gun Sam Hewitt – the Eels never looked like losing and were in control of the match from the get go.

Big running Aitutaki lad Daniel Tutai was shut out of the game by the Eels however the young star managed to dot down once for his team by burrowing through the legs of the Eels right on the try line.

The Eels lead 24-18 at the half time break before completely shutting out the Sharks 50-20 at the final hooter.

The Sharks lacked the spark they had in round three when they gave the Bears a scare and at times in the match against the Eels, the team had fleeting moments of that spark which generated some well worked and smooth tries for the Araura team.

For the Eels, the match was certainly an opportunity to polish up their game as the season heads into round five this weekend.
