Hundreds of future track running stars will take over the BCI Stadium tomorrow (Wednesday 25) for the annual Prince of Wales athletics competition.

This year the annual athletics event for Rarotonga primary schools, the biggest athletics event on the annual sports calendar, will be hosted by the smallest school on the island – Apii Rutaki.

This year the full on day of racing will start at 8am with an opening pure.

The day’s races begins with a show of discipline in the marching parade before budding athletes take to the synthetic and grass tracks for a day of running in the sun.

Parents, caregivers and the general public are invited to the stadium to cheer on the kids.

Avarua Primary School will defend the Prince of Wales shield and will be up against track arch rivals Avatea School who missed out on making it three in a row last year when Avarua kids proved too fast.

However the smaller schools like Rutaki, Takitumu and Arorangi are never to be underestimated as these schools along with others have produced some of the islands fastest men and women.
