Pitching the best against the best, the America’s Cup sailing competition is going down to the wire.

No more chances, no more sailing, no turning back. The match points are 8-all and the atmosphere in San Francisco Bay is filled with tension you could cut through.

The 34th America’s Cup started off with a bang, with the Kiwis in the lead over their counterparts and defenders of the cup Oracle USA.

This is quickly going down in history as a nail-biting fest for the supporters of the two teams.

What was almost a shoo-in, an easy cup victory for the Kiwis, is now turning out to be a potential victory for the defenders team USA, with hopes of millions of Kiwis around the world riding on skipper Dean Barker’s shoulders.

The race is now even and the tension is building in the air for millions of fans around the world and the champion will be decided today.

If the teams’ comments are anything to go by, today’s race will be the most watched and anticipated race in the sailing fraternity.

Like one fan said; “I don’t care who you are pulling for. This is good stuff!” Team New Zealand has been fighting tooth and nail for the past three races and came close to winning in all three. As a supporter on Facebook pointed out; “Sorry for the pun, but is this event rigged?”

Team New Zealand fans are on the edge of their seats but have full faith in their team: “Go ETNZ. Just one more win! You are the underdogs but I believe 100 per cent in you and I know you can win.”

Another said; “This is still reachable. How badly do you want it?”

A frustrated fan voiced his opinion on New Zealand’s loosing streak: “Could someone explain to me why team USA are cheaters in this event? Lots of sore losers here. I almost want to take the day off tomorrow and go to the city. Regardless of who wins it’s going to be a hell of a party.”

One fan has, however, penned the tension and the love of the sport perfectly.
