Two corporate V12 oe vaka races will be run this year with the first event scheduled for April 9 and the second to run on October 29.

The popular annual V12 races for business teams is one of the Cook Islands Canoeing Association’s biggest fundraising events and it has never failed to deliver heaps of fun for teams that take part.

Each year of the event, the competition on the water becomes tougher as corporate team paddlers become more skilled and involved in the local paddling scene.

While registrations are yet to open – teams keen to be part in this year’s event should at least express your interest to a CICA executive so you don’t miss out.

Meanwhile club paddlers have the sprint season to look forward to and according to the CICA calendar the series will kick off this Saturday, March 5, and continue every Saturday until the finals day on March 26.

March 30 will see the start of the midweek time trials while the V1 series starts on April 2 with distances increasing each week.

The inter school Vaka Iti race day is scheduled for April 1 with junior paddlers polishing up their skills.

Te Aito will run again this year for the top paddlers keen to test their skills at the Tahiti Te Aito races.

The local based Te Aito races will run on June 9, 10 and 11.

With the paddling calendar of events now confirmed – expect Avarua harbour and Muri lagoon to start buzzing with activity as paddlers prepare for the Pacific Games in New Caledonia in August and the annual Vaka Eiva Festival in November.
