Cooks v Czechs

The Avatiu Mongoose Golden Oldies club accepted a challenge recently to take on the big boys from the Old Boys Praha a golden oldies team from the Czech Republic.

After a day of brainstorming the game was played at the Avatiu swamp with lots of big hits, knocks and tries seen.

The Old Boys Praha was on the final leg of their 2011 tour which took them from the Czech Republic to Hong Kong and the Cook Islands.

The visiting side played the Mongoose team last Saturday after the local team had a run the night before with the rugby league masters team prepar- ing for the Rugby League Masters tournament on the Gold Coast.

So the Czech team didnt have to work too hard to outrun some of the battered players in the Mongoose side who reportedly gave as good as they got.

After the game the Czech team was treated to a kaikai by the Mongoose side with the added bonus of a big screen broadcasting the Rugby World Cup game between Samoa and Fiji.
