Cooks team prepares for Delhi

As Team Cook Islands departs early this coming Sunday for the Delhi Commonwealth Games in India, a special church service was held for the team at the Nikao CICC church on Sunday.

The lawn bowls team were there in numbers along with the two local based netballers – Luciana Matenga and Curly George.

Boxers Jubilee Arama and Mathew Tito are still in Tahiti for last minute training while track athletes Patricia Taea and Tiraa Arere are at an athletics meet in Cairns.

Sole tennis player Brittany Teei will join the team from Auckland.

Team managers for the six Commonwealth Games sport codes are being asked to a briefing this afternoon at the CISNOC office in Taputapuatea.

Chef de Mission George George says he has been in regular contact with the Commonwealth Games Federation who continue to assure that high security will be in place in Delhi during the games.

The team departs on Sunday morning for Auckland where they will be hosted by the Cook Islands Sports Association in New Zealand while the team are on a one day lay over.

From Auckland the team will travel direct to India ahead of the opening ceremony scheduled for October 3.
