The Cook Islands national women’s soccer team has progressed to the semifinal stage of the Oceania Football Confederation Women’s tournament after defeating Vanuatu 2-0.

The Cooks dominated the game but found it difficult to score until the 83rd minute when Dayna Napa latched on to a through ball and went around the Vanuatu goalkeeper and tapped the ball into the net.

In the 89th minute Mama Henry blasted the ball into the top right-hand corner from close range to seal the match two goals to nil and secure their place in the semifinal stage of the tournament.

Our women’s team will now play Pool B winner Papua New Guinea tomorrow at 4.30pm (CI time).

Team is reported to be in good spirit and would like to thank all those who have sent messages of encouragement.
