The Football Ferns defeated Cook Islands seven goals to nil on the opening day of the Oceania Football Confederation Under 17 Women’s Championship at Centre Park in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Cook Islands put up a brave performance against hosts New Zealand by keeping the score-line four goals to nil at the half time whistle.

In the second spell of the match New Zealand added another three goals to their tally to bring the final score to seven goals to nil.

This is the first time that the Cook Islands has entered an under 17 women’s team in an Oceania qualifying tournament.

Last night the Cook Islands played their second match against Papua New Guinea.
