The Auckland Country of Origins Cricket competition moved into the last round robin matches at the weekend, with the Cook Islands team up against an in-form Indian side.

The game would ultimately decide who would proceed to the final.

Sent in to bat first, India was relying on their gun openers to put up a great batting display and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

Despite some tight bowling from Cook Island’s Peter Glassie, India put up a respectable 183 runs.

In reply, the Indians continued their good form with the ball, dismissing Cook Islands for 122 and booking their place in the major final.

Telecom Cook Islands National squad member Davis Teinaki says it was a game they should have won, but will definitely benefit from in future matches.

“We didn’t play as well as we should have and India made us pay in all areas of the game, but we just have to move on and concentrate on the next game.”

The Cook Islands will await the result of the Pakistan and Afghanistan match to find out who they will play for 3rd and 4th honours this weekend.

And they will definitely be bringing their ‘Boomtown’ action on the pitch come game time after missing out on a finals spot. - CICA
